The Story of Antinea, 1928-48

Sanfrid Hongell wanted to build a yacht for his two sons Göran and Nils-Erik. He ordered the design from Einar Olofsson, and built a beautiful yacht. The construction costed a little under 70 000FIM, which in todays value would be approx. 20 000 euros. Sanfrid Hongell had two men working with him, and alltogether these three men used over 950 hours to finish Antinea.

The sons sailed with Antinea from 1928 until the end of the second world war. They competed a lot, and succeeded well. In 1945 Nils-Erik bought the whole yacht for himself and sold it to Seth Östling. The reason for selling the yacht was the new iron keel. All the keels made of lead were taken into military use during the war, and the brothers were not satisfied with the new keel. After a couple owners in Finland, Antinea was sold to Sweden.

Antinea in Sweden

In 1948 Claes Göran Sörefjord from Rönninge bought Antinea and she got a Swedish sail number S 74. After him, Antinea had a diverse group of owners, none of whome took care of her condition. She had two names in Sweden, Kers and Quers.

Antinea Comes Back to the Family

In the late 80's brothers Mikael and Robert Renlund decided to buy a classic 6mR yacht and started to search for one. Once they found out about Antinea, they had no other choise. Robert is married to Nina Hongell, whose grandfather's father is Sanfrid Hongell. The yacht was coming back to the family. In the summer of 1990 she was brouhgt to Finland, but the sail was not an easy one: Antinea was badly leaky.
